Install Forbidden Finance on Your Desktop
How to use Forbidden Finance in your browser at app.403fin.io, install it as a desktop app, and get updates on the web and on the directly downloaded Android app.
Overview
Forbidden Finance runs in your browser at app.403fin.io. It's the same app as on your phone, with the same account, data and settings. Sign in with the same email, passkey or social sign-in you use on mobile.
You can also install the web app so it opens in its own window, with its own icon in your Dock, taskbar or Start menu, instead of living in a browser tab. Installing is optional. Everything works the same either way.
How to Install the Web App
Open the app in your browser
Go to app.403fin.io and sign in.
Find your browser's install option
In Chrome or Edge, look for the install icon at the right end of the address bar, or open the browser menu and look for an option to install the page as an app. In Safari on a Mac, choose File > Add to Dock.
Confirm
Accept the browser's prompt. Forbidden Finance opens in its own window and appears alongside your other apps.
Shortcuts
Once installed, right-click the app's icon (in browsers that support app shortcuts, such as Chrome and Edge) to find Add transaction, which opens the transaction form directly.
Staying Up to Date
You never need to download an update for the web app. When a new version is published, a banner appears saying A new version is available and "Reload to get the latest version."
- Tap Reload to switch to the new version straight away.
- Tap Dismiss to keep working and pick it up later.
The app checks for a new version when you come back to its window or tab, and every 15 minutes while it stays open. It never reloads by itself, so you won't lose something you're typing. The installed app and a browser tab update the same way.
Working Offline
Forbidden Finance needs an internet connection to load your accounts, balances and transactions. If your connection drops, reconnect and the app picks up where you left off.
Updates on the Downloaded Android App
If you installed the Android app by downloading it directly instead of from an app store, nothing updates it automatically. Forbidden Finance checks for you instead: when a newer version is out, a message appears at the bottom of the screen saying Version X is available, with its size, and a Get it button.
Tap Get it
This opens the download page at 403fin.io/forbidden-finance/download/ in your browser. It doesn't start a download on its own.
Check and install
The download page lists the checksum and signing fingerprint for the file. Download the new version and install it over the old one. Your data lives on our servers, so nothing is lost.
This message never appears on app store installs, because the store handles those updates.
Tips
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the installed app different from the website?
No. It's the same app at the same address, opened in its own window. Your account, data and settings are identical.
Do I need to sign in again after installing?
Your browser may treat the installed window as a fresh start. If you're asked to sign in, use the same method you normally use.
How do I uninstall it?
Use your browser's or operating system's normal way of removing apps. In Chrome and Edge, the installed app's own menu has an uninstall option. Uninstalling doesn't touch your account or data.
Does the web app get push notifications?
Yes, if you allow notifications for the site in your browser. See Notifications Not Arriving if they don't show up.
