How to update your display name, email address, base currency, timezone, and country in Forbidden Finance.

Overview

Your profile settings control the basic information Forbidden Finance uses to personalize your experience. Here you can update your display name, change your email address, set your base currency, choose your timezone, and specify your country. These settings affect how dates, currencies, and notifications appear throughout the app.

How to Update Your Profile

Open Settings

Tap the Settings icon (gear) in the bottom navigation bar or side menu.

Select Profile

Tap Profile to view your current information.

Edit your details

Tap any field to update it. Make your changes and tap Save when you are done.

Profile Fields

Display Name

Your display name appears in the app header, household sharing views, and activity logs. It does not need to be your legal name. You can change it at any time.

Email Address

Your email is used for account recovery, notifications, and support correspondence. Changing your email requires verification:

Enter a new email

Type the new email address in the email field.

Verify the new email

Forbidden Finance sends a verification link to the new address. Tap the link in the email to confirm.

Confirmation

Once verified, your email is updated. The old email is no longer associated with your account. You receive a confirmation at both the old and new addresses for security.

Until verification is complete, your old email remains active. If you do not verify the new email, no change is made.

Base Currency

Your base currency is the primary currency for all monetary displays, budget totals, net worth calculations, and reports. When you use multiple currencies, all values are converted to your base currency for consistent totals.

Choose the currency you use most frequently. Common choices include USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, and AUD. You can change your base currency at any time, and all existing values are recalculated using the latest exchange rates.

Timezone

Your timezone determines how dates and times are displayed throughout the app, including transaction dates, budget period boundaries, and notification delivery times. Select the timezone where you live or the one you prefer for financial record-keeping.

Country

Your country setting helps Forbidden Finance tailor certain features, such as default categories and account types, to match local financial norms. It does not restrict functionality.

Tips

Set your base currency before adding transactions or building a budget. While you can change it later, starting with the right currency avoids confusion in your historical data displays.
If you travel frequently, keep your timezone set to your home location so your budget periods and notifications stay consistent.

Can I change my base currency after I have been using the app?

Yes. Changing your base currency recalculates all displayed totals using the latest exchange rates. Your underlying transaction data is preserved in its original currency. Historical views show converted amounts.

What happens if I do not verify my new email?

Nothing changes. Your old email remains active until the new one is verified. The verification link expires after 24 hours. You can request a new link from the profile settings screen.

Does my country setting affect what banks I can connect?

Your country setting helps personalize your experience but does not restrict bank connections. Bank availability through Plaid depends on the bank itself, not your profile country.

Can I have a different display name than my email name?

Yes. Your display name and email are independent. Use whatever display name you prefer.
