Subscription & Plans

How to view your current plan, understand what each tier includes, and upgrade or downgrade your Forbidden Finance subscription.

Overview

Forbidden Finance offers four plans for different stages of your finances. You can start with the Free plan and upgrade anytime as your needs grow. Every plan includes the core features: manual accounts, transaction tracking, and a customizable dashboard. Paid plans add bank connections, brokerage connections, advanced budgeting methods, multi-currency support, household sharing, and more.

You can view, change, or cancel your subscription at any time from the app settings.

Connections live in three pools that count independently: bank connections (checking, savings, credit, loans, many retirement balances), brokerage connections (direct investment holdings, Pro and above), and Premium Connections (a limited pool for HSAs, 529s, and some workplace retirement recordkeepers). See Connect Your Bank, Connect a Brokerage, and Premium Connections.

  • Unlimited currencies
  • Unlimited transaction history
  • Unlimited goal spending plans
  • Custom assets (vehicles, art, collectibles)
  • Per-lot cost-basis detail with tax-lot CSV export
  • FIRE planning tools

Add-on Packs

Premium Connection Packs add extra Premium Connection slots on top of what your tier includes. They're handy when you need to connect more HSAs, 529s, or workplace retirement recordkeepers than your plan covers.

  • Who can buy: any paid tier (Starter and above), including tiers that include no Premium Connection slots by default.
  • Pack sizes: 1, 3, 5, or 10 additional slots.
  • Owner-only: only the plan owner can purchase packs for the household.
  • Where to buy: on the web at app.403fin.io, you buy packs on their own. In the iOS and Android apps, you add extra slots together with your plan using the slot selector on each plan card. The apps don't sell standalone packs.
  • Renewal: packs renew with your subscription and are canceled if you cancel your plan.

Packs add to the Premium Connections pool only. They do not change your bank-connection count, which is set by your tier. See Premium Connections for the full walkthrough.

How to View Your Current Plan

Open Settings

Tap the Settings icon in the navigation bar.

Select Subscription

Tap Subscription or Plan. You see your current plan name, billing cycle, and renewal date.

Billing History and Restoring Purchases

If you pay on the web, the Subscription screen has a Billing History link with your past invoices. If you subscribed in the iOS or Android app, tap Restore Purchases on the same screen when your plan doesn't show up, for example on a new phone. See Billing History, Packs and Downgrades for details.

How to Upgrade

Open Subscription settings

Go to Settings > Subscription.

Tap Upgrade

Tap Upgrade or Change Plan. You see a comparison of all available plans.

Select your new plan

Confirm and pay

Follow the payment prompts. Your upgrade takes effect immediately, and you gain instant access to the new features. Any remaining credit from your current billing period is prorated.

How to Downgrade

Open Subscription settings

Go to Settings > Subscription.

Tap Change Plan

Select the plan you want to switch to.

Review what changes

The app shows you which features you lose. For example, moving from Pro to Starter removes household sharing and debt tracking but keeps net worth tracking. Moving to Free also removes net worth tracking.

Confirm

Your downgrade takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep full access to your current plan's features until then.

What Happens to Your Data on Downgrade

If the new plan allows fewer connections or currencies than you use, a Review downgrade screen asks you to pick which items to remove before the change date. It shows the date your plan changes and groups your items as Bank & brokerage connections, International banks, Investments (Premium Connections) and Foreign currencies, with a line such as "Pick at least 2 of 5" under each group that is over the new limit. Tap Save selection when you're done. If nothing is over the limit, the screen tells you nothing will be removed.

  • Connections: the ones you pick are disconnected on the change date. Their transaction history stays in your account. The others keep syncing.
  • Currencies: a currency backed by connected accounts shows "removing disconnects them", so pick those last. A currency you added by hand is simply released. You can't track new currencies above the new limit until you upgrade again.
  • Household sharing: if the new plan does not support sharing, a 14-day grace period applies before sharing stops, so members are not cut off abruptly.
  • Transaction history: history beyond the new plan's window is kept but not visible until you upgrade again.
  • Budget method: if a budget uses a method the new plan doesn't include, you're asked to Choose a supported method. You can still view that budget, but you can't change it until you pick.

Your data is kept when you downgrade. Only connections you chose to remove stop syncing.

How to Cancel

If you decide to cancel your subscription entirely:

  1. Go to Settings > Subscription.
  2. Tap Cancel Subscription.
  3. Confirm. Your paid features remain active until the end of your current billing period, then you revert to the Free plan.

30-Day Money-Back Guarantee

Subscriptions you buy on the web come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. The 30 days count from the start of your current billing period.

  • How to claim it: on the web, go to Settings > Subscription and tap Request a refund. The button only shows inside the 30-day window.
  • Your first refund: your first refund, or one more than 180 days after your last, is issued automatically. It lands on your original payment method.
  • Repeat refunds: a second refund within 180 days, or a third or later refund, goes to our support team, who review it within 24 hours.
  • Your plan after a refund: a refund cancels your subscription at the end of the current billing period.
  • App Store or Google Play subscriptions: request the refund from Apple or Google. Store purchases are refunded by the store, not by Forbidden Finance.

Switching Plans Mid-Cycle

You can switch tiers at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately and are pro-rated against the time remaining in your current billing period. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period so you keep what you paid for.

There are no trials. The 30-day money-back guarantee covers that ground without the friction of a separate trial flow.

Tips

Start with the Free plan to explore the app, then upgrade to Starter when you are ready to connect your bank. Many users find Starter sufficient for everyday budgeting.
Check the plan comparison screen before upgrading to make sure the features you want are included in the tier you are considering.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I try a higher plan before committing?

Forbidden Finance does not offer free trials. Instead, every paid plan comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. If it isn't for you, request a refund within 30 days. On the web, use Request a refund in Settings > Subscription. For App Store or Google Play subscriptions, ask the store.

Will I lose my data if I cancel?

No. Canceling reverts you to the Free plan. Your data is preserved, but features beyond the Free tier are no longer accessible until you upgrade again.

Can I switch plans mid-billing cycle?

Upgrades take effect immediately with prorated billing. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period.

Where can I see pricing?

Current pricing is available in the app on the plan comparison screen and on the Forbidden Finance website. The help center does not list prices because they may vary by region and promotional offers.

I installed the Android app from dl.403fin.io. Where are the purchase buttons?

Builds installed outside an app store (sideloaded APKs and some beta builds) cannot sell subscriptions in-app. Manage your plan on the web at app.403fin.io. An active subscription appears in the app automatically, whichever way you installed it.

Why is my next bill $0? / What is the "A little something extra" notification?

Occasionally our support team grants a goodwill gesture, such as a free month or a complimentary connection pack. You'll get an email and a push notification when that happens, and the gesture shows as a $0 line on the relevant invoice. Complimentary packs never auto-renew into a paid charge: if one is about to expire, the app shows a banner up to 30 days ahead so you can decide whether to keep the slots.
