Achievements & Badges

How the achievement system works in Forbidden Finance, including badge tiers, categories, and celebration animations.

Overview

Achievements in Forbidden Finance reward you for reaching financial milestones and building good habits. When you complete a goal, maintain a tracking streak, or reach a milestone, you earn a badge that appears in your profile. Achievements gamify your financial journey without trivializing it: each badge represents a meaningful step forward in managing your money.

Badges are earned automatically as you use the app. There is no extra setup required.

How Achievements Work

As you interact with Forbidden Finance, the app tracks your activity against a set of achievement criteria. When you meet the requirements, the badge unlocks automatically and a celebration animation plays on screen. You can view all your earned badges and see which ones are still locked from your achievement profile.

Badge Tiers

Each achievement has five tiers of increasing difficulty:

TierMeaning
BronzeGetting started. Completing the first milestone.
SilverBuilding consistency. Maintaining the habit or reaching an intermediate level.
GoldDemonstrating commitment. Sustained effort over time.
PlatinumExceptional dedication. Long-term streaks or significant accomplishments.
DiamondMastery. The highest level of achievement in a category.

For example, a budgeting achievement might unlock Bronze when you create your first budget, Silver after 3 consecutive months of staying within budget, Gold after 6 months, Platinum after 12, and Diamond after 24.

Achievement Categories

Achievements span every major feature area of the app:

Getting Started

  • First Transaction — Record your first transaction.
  • First Budget — Create and activate your first budget.
  • First Bank Connection — Connect your first bank account.
  • First Goal — Set your first savings goal.

Consistency

  • Tracking Streak — Log in and review your finances on consecutive days. Tiers increase with longer streaks (7, 30, 90, 180, 365 days).
  • Budget Adherence — Stay within your budget for consecutive months.
  • Transaction Review — Categorize all transactions within a week for consecutive weeks.

Milestones

  • Goal Reached — Fully fund a savings goal. Higher tiers for more goals completed.
  • Net Worth Milestone — Reach net worth milestones (first positive net worth, first major threshold, etc.).
  • Debt Payoff — Pay off a tracked liability entirely.

Exploration

  • Method Explorer — Try different budgeting methods. Bronze for 2 methods, higher tiers for more.
  • Multi-Currency — Add and use multiple currencies.
  • Household Builder — Invite a partner and share accounts.

Viewing Your Achievements

Open your profile

Tap your profile avatar or name in the top corner of the dashboard.

Select Achievements

Tap Achievements to see your badge collection.

Browse badges

Scroll through categories. Earned badges are displayed in full color with the tier indicator. Locked badges appear dimmed with a hint about what is required to unlock them.

Tap for details

Tap any badge to see its description, the criteria for each tier, and your current progress toward the next tier.

Celebration Animations

When you unlock a new badge, a celebration animation plays on screen. This is a brief, satisfying visual moment that recognizes your accomplishment. If you prefer a calmer experience, the animation is automatically suppressed when Reduced Effects is enabled in your appearance settings.

Tips

Check your achievement progress regularly for motivation. Seeing that you are one week away from a Platinum tracking streak can be a powerful incentive to keep going.
Achievements are personal milestones, not competitive rankings. Focus on the badges that align with your financial goals rather than trying to unlock everything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do achievements affect my account or finances?

No. Achievements are purely informational and motivational. They do not change your account, unlock features, or affect any financial calculations.

Can I lose an achievement I already earned?

No. Once a badge is unlocked, it stays earned permanently even if the conditions are no longer met (for example, breaking a streak does not revoke the streak badge you already earned at a lower tier).

Are achievements visible to my household members?

Currently, achievements are visible only to you on your own profile. Household members cannot see each other's badges.

Can I turn off celebration animations?

Yes. Enable Reduced Effects in Settings > Appearance to suppress celebration animations and other visual effects throughout the app.
