Delete or Recover Your Account

How to delete your Forbidden Finance account, what happens to your data and subscription, and how to restore your account within the 30-day recovery window.

Overview

You can delete your Forbidden Finance account at any time. Deletion is designed to be safe and reversible for a full month: your data is held for 30 days before it is permanently removed, so if you change your mind you can restore everything. This article explains exactly what happens when you delete, how refunds work, and how to recover your account during the window.

Before you delete, you can keep a copy of everything. You receive a secure export link by email as part of deletion, and you can also export at any time from Settings > Data Export.

How to Delete Your Account

Open your profile

Go to Settings > Profile and scroll to Delete Account.

Review what happens

Read the summary of what deletion does (see below), then tap Continue.

Confirm with your password

Re-enter your current password to authorize the deletion. This confirms it is really you.

Save your links

On the confirmation screen, copy your data export link and your recovery link. Both are also emailed to you. Keep the recovery link somewhere safe in case you change your mind.

What Happens When You Delete

  • Bank syncing stops immediately. The bank connection itself stays in place but dormant, and is fully severed when deletion completes at day 30.
  • You receive a secure export link by email, valid for 30 days, so you can download a full copy of your data. The link also appears on the deletion confirmation screen in case email delivery is delayed.
  • Any paid subscription is canceled and refunded automatically -- in full if you are within your first 30 days, otherwise pro-rated for the unused time. See Subscription & Billing for the full refund policy.
  • You have 30 days to change your mind. Within the window you can restore your account using the recovery link (see below).
  • At day 30, deletion completes. Your financial data is permanently deleted, the export archive is destroyed, and your bank connections are unlinked.
For your security, the revoked bank-link credential is kept for up to 30 days after deletion completes, purely to confirm with your bank's provider that access has been fully removed. Once that is confirmed, it is destroyed too.

Recovering Your Account

If you change your mind within 30 days of starting deletion, you can bring your account back.

Open your recovery link

Use the recovery link from your email or the one you copied on the confirmation screen. It is single-use and cancels the pending deletion.

Sign back in

Your account and all of its financial data are restored.

Re-confirm your banks

For your security, you will be asked to quickly re-confirm each bank connection so syncing can resume.

A restored account comes back on the Free plan. If you were on a paid plan, you can resubscribe at any time from Settings > Subscription.
If you forget your password during the recovery window, contact [email protected]. We cannot recover the account without access to your email.

After Day 30

Once the 30-day window passes, deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. There is no way to restore data after this point, which is why we email you the export link up front. If you want to use Forbidden Finance again after permanent deletion, you are welcome to create a new account from scratch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a refund when I delete?

Yes, automatically. If you are within your first 30 days on a paid plan you receive a full refund; after that, your refund is pro-rated for the unused portion of your billing period. You do not need to file a support ticket -- it is initiated as part of deletion.

Will I lose my data the moment I delete?

No. Your data is held for 30 days so you can recover the account. It is only permanently removed when the window closes. Bank syncing, however, stops right away.

Yes. As a security measure you re-confirm each bank connection after recovery. Your historical data is already restored -- this just resumes live syncing.

What if I only want to disconnect a bank, not delete everything?

You do not need to delete your account for that. See Remove a Connection to disconnect a single bank while keeping your account.
