Dashboard Widgets
How to customize your Forbidden Finance dashboard with drag-and-drop widgets, including layout options for mobile and desktop.
Overview
Your Forbidden Finance dashboard is fully customizable. Widgets give you at-a-glance summaries of the financial data that matters most to you: budget progress, upcoming bills, net worth, goal tracking, account balances, and more. You can rearrange, hide, and show widgets to create a dashboard layout that fits how you use the app.
The dashboard adapts to your screen size, with different layout options available for mobile devices and desktop browsers.
Available Widgets
| Widget | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Account Balances | Current balances for all your accounts, grouped by type. |
| Budget Progress | Your active budget's spending vs. allocation for the current month. |
| Upcoming Bills | The next 7 days of expected recurring charges. |
| Net Worth | Your current net worth with a mini trend chart (Pro+). |
| Goals Progress | Progress bars for your active savings goals. |
| Recent Transactions | Your most recent transactions across all accounts. |
| Cash Flow Forecast | A snapshot of your projected balance over the next 30 days. |
| Spending by Category | A breakdown of this month's spending by category. |
| Reflection Prompt | A prompt to complete your weekly or monthly reflection entry. |
| Achievement Spotlight | Your most recently earned badge and next unlockable achievement. |
Not all widgets are available on every plan. Widgets tied to Pro or Premium features (like Net Worth) appear only when you have access to those features.
How to Customize Your Dashboard
Entering Edit Mode
Open the dashboard
Navigate to the home screen of Forbidden Finance.
Enter edit mode
Tap the Edit button (pencil icon) in the top corner of the dashboard. The widgets begin to wobble slightly, indicating they are movable.
Rearranging Widgets
Press and hold a widget
Touch and hold any widget until it lifts from the grid.
Drag to a new position
Move the widget to your desired position on the dashboard. Other widgets shift to make room.
Release
Drop the widget in its new position. The layout updates immediately.
Hiding and Showing Widgets
In edit mode, tap the visibility toggle
Each widget shows a visibility icon (eye) in edit mode. Tap it to hide the widget. Hidden widgets disappear from the dashboard but can be restored later.
Restore a hidden widget
While in edit mode, tap Add Widget or scroll to the hidden widgets section at the bottom. Tap any hidden widget to restore it to the dashboard.
Saving Your Layout
When you are done making changes, tap Done or the checkmark icon to exit edit mode. Your layout is saved automatically and syncs across your devices.
Mobile vs. Desktop Layouts
Forbidden Finance maintains separate layouts for mobile and desktop:
- Mobile — Widgets stack vertically in a single column, optimized for scrolling. You control the order from top to bottom.
- Desktop — Widgets arrange in a multi-column grid. You can position widgets side by side or stacked, taking advantage of the wider screen.
Changes made on mobile affect the mobile layout only, and changes on desktop affect the desktop layout only. This means you can have a compact, prioritized mobile dashboard and a more expansive desktop view.
Reset to Default
If you want to start over with the original widget layout:
Enter edit mode
Tap the Edit button on the dashboard.
Tap Reset
Tap Reset to Default (usually in a menu or at the bottom of the edit screen). Confirm the reset.
Done
The dashboard returns to its original layout with all widgets visible in their default positions.
Tips
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my widget layout sync across devices?
Yes, but mobile and desktop layouts are maintained separately. Your phone layout syncs to other phones, and your desktop layout syncs to other desktop browsers.
Can I add the same widget twice?
No. Each widget type can appear only once on the dashboard. If you need a wider view of a specific data set, tap the widget to open its full-screen detail view.
Why is a widget missing from my options?
Some widgets are tied to specific features and plan tiers. For example, the Net Worth widget only appears if you have a Pro or Premium plan. The Upcoming Bills widget requires at least one active recurring rule.
Will resetting to default delete my data?
No. Resetting only affects widget arrangement and visibility. Your financial data, accounts, budgets, and goals are completely unaffected.
