Explore the Dashboard
A walkthrough of the Forbidden Finance dashboard, including widgets, privacy mode, customization, and pull-to-refresh.
Overview
The dashboard is your home screen in Forbidden Finance. It gives you a snapshot of your financial life at a glance -- your net worth, budget progress, recent transactions, and upcoming bills, all in one place. You can customize the layout, hide sensitive amounts with privacy mode, and refresh your data with a pull-down gesture.
Every widget on the dashboard is designed to surface the most important information without requiring you to navigate deeper into the app.
Dashboard Widgets
Your dashboard displays the following widgets, depending on your tier and account setup:
| Widget | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Net Worth Summary | Your current net worth with month-over-month change. Shows the trend at a glance. |
| Budget Progress | Animated progress bars for each active budget category. See how much you have spent and how much remains. |
| Recent Transactions | Your last 5 transactions across all accounts, with merchant names, categories, and amounts. |
| Upcoming Bills | Bills due in the next 7 days, so you know what is coming before it hits your account. |
| Connection Health | Banners that appear when a bank connection is degraded or needs re-authentication. |
How to Customize Your Dashboard
Enter edit mode
Tap the Edit button in the top-right corner of the dashboard (or long-press any widget).
Rearrange widgets
Drag and drop widgets to reorder them. Place the information you check most often at the top.
Save your layout
Tap Done to save your new layout. Your customization syncs across all your devices.
How to Use Privacy Mode
Privacy mode hides all monetary amounts on the dashboard behind a blur, so no one looking over your shoulder can see your balances, budgets, or transaction amounts.
Toggle privacy mode on
Tap the eye icon in the app bar at the top of the dashboard. All amounts are instantly hidden.
Peek at individual cards
While privacy mode is active, tap any individual card or widget to temporarily reveal its amounts. The rest of the dashboard stays hidden.
Toggle privacy mode off
Tap the eye icon again to reveal all amounts.
How to Refresh Your Data
Pull down on the dashboard to trigger a manual refresh. This fetches the latest data from your connected accounts and updates all widgets. The refresh respects your tier's sync schedule -- if your tier supports daily sync, pulling to refresh fetches the most recent available data from your last sync window.
Tips
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I see a lock icon on some widgets?
Locked widgets belong to features that are not included in your current tier. For example, the Net Worth widget requires the Pro tier or above. Tap the locked widget to see which tier unlocks it.
Can I hide widgets I don't use?
Currently, you can rearrange widgets but not hide them entirely. Move less-used widgets to the bottom of your dashboard so the information you care about stays at the top.
Does privacy mode sync across devices?
No. Privacy mode is a per-session toggle. Each time you open the app, amounts are visible by default. This prevents you from accidentally leaving privacy mode on and forgetting about it.
Why does pull-to-refresh not show new transactions?
Pull-to-refresh loads the most recent data available from your last sync. If your bank connection syncs daily, new transactions appear after the next daily sync, not immediately on pull. Check your sync schedule under Settings > Subscription for details on your tier's sync frequency.
What does the connection health banner mean?
It means one or more of your bank connections needs attention, usually because your bank requires you to re-enter credentials or complete an MFA prompt. Tap the banner to fix it, or see the Bank Connection Issues guide.
