Account Interest Rate (APY)

How Forbidden Finance shows the interest rate (APY) on your savings and checking accounts, where the rate comes from, and how it feeds goal timelines.

Overview

Many savings accounts pay interest. Forbidden Finance can show the annual percentage yield (APY) on an account, label where that rate came from, and use it when it estimates how long a linked goal will take.

Available on: Starter and up. On Free, the rate card shows a locked preview.

Where the Rate Comes From

Every rate carries a label, so you always know how much to trust it:

LabelWhere it came from
ProviderYour bank reported it through your bank connection, where the connection supports it. It updates when your account syncs.
EstimatedWorked out from the interest your bank has actually paid into the account, compared with the account's average balance.
Entered by youYou typed it in. A rate you enter is never replaced by a bank-reported or estimated rate.
Estimated rates are not switched on for every account yet. If your bank doesn't report a rate and you haven't entered one, the account shows No rate on file.

See an Account's Rate

Open the account from Settings > Accounts. The Interest rate (APY) card shows the rate, its label, and when it was last updated. The accounts list also shows the rate under each account that has one.

Enter or Change Your Rate

Open the account

Go to Settings > Accounts and open the account.

Tap Add rate (or Edit)

On the Interest rate (APY) card, tap Add rate, or Edit if a rate is already there.

Enter the APY

Enter the yearly rate as a percent, for example 4.25. You can use up to four decimal places, from 0 to 100.

Save

The card now shows your rate, labeled Entered by you.

Clear your rate

Tap Clear on the card and confirm. This removes only the rate you entered. If your bank reports a rate, or an estimated rate exists, that one shows instead.

How the Rate Is Used

When a goal is linked to an account with a rate on file, the goal's projected completion date includes the interest that balance would earn, compounding monthly. The goal says which method it used:

  • Estimated with the linked account's rate: interest is included.
  • Based on your recent monthly pace: no rate was available, so the estimate uses your contributions only.

Linking a goal to an account needs Starter or higher. See Linking Budgets & Accounts.

A rate is a snapshot. Banks change savings rates, and a projected date is an estimate, not a promise.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my account show no rate?

Your bank hasn't reported one, no estimate is available, and you haven't entered one. You can enter it yourself.

Will my bank's rate overwrite mine?

No. A rate you enter stays until you clear it.

Is the rate kept when I downgrade to Free?

Yes. The rate stays on file, and the card shows it again if you upgrade. On Free the card shows a locked preview.
