Premium Connections
Premium Connections are a small pool of limited slots for institutions the bank and brokerage rails can't reach: HSAs, 529 plans, and some workplace retirement recordkeepers. Pro includes 1 slot, Premium includes 3, and any paid tier can add more with packs.
Overview
Most of your accounts connect on one of two rails: Bank & Account Connections for checking, savings, credit, loans, and many retirement balances, or Brokerages & Investments for direct brokerage holdings. A few institutions sit outside both: health savings account (HSA) custodians, 529 college-savings plans, and some workplace retirement recordkeepers. Premium Connections is a small pool of slots reserved for exactly those hard-to-reach institutions.
Because these connections are more specialized and costlier to maintain, they come as a limited pool of slots rather than an open-ended count.
| Tier | Premium Connection slots included |
|---|---|
| Free | None |
| Starter | None (packs available) |
| Pro | 1 |
| Premium | 3 |
Any paid tier (Starter and up) can add more slots with Premium Connection Packs (see below), even if the tier includes none by default.
When to Use a Premium Connection
Reach for a Premium Connection slot when an institution you want to track does not appear on the standard bank rail or the brokerage rail. Common cases:
- HSAs: health savings account custodians that neither rail reaches.
- 529 plans: state-sponsored college-savings plans.
- Workplace retirement recordkeepers: some employer plan administrators that are not full brokerages.
How to Use a Slot
Open the add-account screen
Go to the Accounts tab and tap Add Account or the + button.
Choose Premium Connections
Tap Premium Connections. You see how many slots you have and how many are free.
Find the institution
Search for the HSA, 529 plan, or recordkeeper you want to connect.
Authenticate and confirm
Complete the secure connection flow. One slot is consumed, and the account begins syncing like any other connected account.
If you have no free slots, you can buy a pack, free a slot by disconnecting another Premium Connection, or ask the plan owner for one if you're in a household. See Sharing slots below.
Check Coverage Before You Buy
You can check whether your institution is reachable before you spend a slot or buy a pack.
Open the coverage check
Tap Will my institution work? Check coverage first. You'll find it under the Premium Connections option when you add an account, and next to the packs on your subscription screen.

Search
Type at least three letters of the institution's name, for example "Fidelity" or "HSA Bank". The search covers US and Canadian institutions.
Read the result
If it's listed, it should work as a Premium Connection. A listing isn't a guarantee, since your bank's own sign-in can still fail. If you can't find it, tap Contact support before purchasing and we'll check for you.
Premium Connection Packs
Need more slots than your tier includes? Premium Connection Packs add extra Premium Connection slots to your account. They are available to any paid tier (Starter and up), so even a Starter member can add a slot for a single HSA.
- Pack sizes: 1, 3, 5, or 10 additional slots.
- Owner-only purchase: only the plan owner can buy packs for the household.
- On the web: buy packs on their own at app.403fin.io.
- In the iOS and Android apps: add extra slots together with your plan, using the slot selector on each plan card. The apps don't sell standalone packs.
- Billed with your subscription: packs renew alongside your plan and are canceled if you cancel your subscription.
Pack pricing is shown at checkout. The help center does not list prices because they can vary by region and promotion.
Sharing Premium Connection Slots
Premium Connection slots share the same household lending model as bank-connection slots, but the two pools lend independently. The plan owner can lend unused Premium Connection slots to household members without touching the bank pool, and vice versa.
- Owner lends unused slots. The plan owner allocates spare Premium Connection slots to a household member, who uses them for their own institutions.
- Received slots can't be re-lent. A member who receives a slot cannot pass it on to a third person.
- Request a slot. A member with zero Premium Connection slots can tap Request a slot to send the owner a notification.
Month-end cooldown
Premium Connection slots have a billing cooldown that bank slots do not. When you disconnect an institution from a Premium Connection slot, that slot stays reserved to you until the end of the calendar month before it returns to the pool. This lets you reconnect or swap institutions within the same billing month without losing the slot, and it keeps slot counts stable for billing. The freed slot becomes available to lend or reuse at the start of the next month.
Full details, including how the owner lends and how recipients keep their connections when a slot is withdrawn, are in Slot Donation.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Premium Connection and a bank connection?
Bank connections cover everyday institutions (checking, savings, credit, loans, and many retirement balances), and their count is set by your tier. Premium Connections are a separate, limited pool for specialized institutions the other rails can't reach, like HSAs and 529 plans.
I am on Starter with no included slots. Can I connect an HSA?
Yes. Buy a Premium Connection Pack (available from Starter up) to add one or more slots, then connect the HSA on the Premium Connections rail.
Why do freed slots not come back right away?
Premium Connection slots carry a month-end billing cooldown. A slot you free by disconnecting stays reserved to you through the end of the calendar month, then returns to the pool. This keeps billing stable and lets you swap institutions within the same month.
Can I lend a Premium Connection slot to my partner?
If you are the plan owner and have an unused slot, yes. The two pools lend independently, so lending a Premium Connection slot does not affect your bank-connection slots. Received slots can't be re-lent.
Where do I buy packs?
On the web at app.403fin.io, you can buy packs on their own. In the iOS and Android apps, you add extra slots when you choose your plan, using the slot selector on each plan card. Either way, packs are an owner-only purchase and renew with your subscription.
