Switch Connection Provider
Move a bank's accounts to a different connection provider when the current one has stopped working, without losing history, categories, notes, budgets or goals.
Overview
Sometimes a bank connection stops syncing for good because the service behind it no longer supports that bank. Instead of deleting the connection and starting again, you can switch it to a different provider. Your transactions, categories, notes, budgets and goals all stay where they are. Each account keeps its identity. Only the service that feeds it changes.
The option appears on a broken connection's menu as Switch provider, beside Reconnect. If you don't see it, it isn't available for your account yet. Try Reconnect first, since most sync problems are fixed by signing in to your bank again.
How to Switch Provider
Open the connection's menu
Go to Settings > Accounts & Connections, find the connection that has stopped syncing, and open its menu. Tap Switch provider.
Read the summary
The first screen is headed Move your bank to a different provider, with the bank's name in place of "your bank". It shows which provider is currently syncing it and how many accounts and their history will move across.
Choose the new connection
Tap Connect with a new provider to sign in to your bank through the new service. The new provider is asked for enough history to cover the gap since the old one stopped, and no more. If you already have another connection that could take these accounts, it's listed under Or move onto a connection you already have.
Check the pairings
On Check the pairings, each account on the left keeps its history and everything you've built on it. The account beside it is the one that will feed it from now on. Under each pair you'll see what it was matched on, how many transactions are kept, and whether the new connection has already pulled any that overlap.
Deal with accounts that have no counterpart
If the new connection offers nothing that matches an account, it's listed under Accounts with no counterpart. Tap Keep as a manual account to keep every transaction without syncing, or Pair with an account yourself.
Start the switch
Tap Start the switch. The progress screen, Switching provider, walks through Getting ready, Moving your history, Reconciling the overlap and Removing the old connection, then Switch complete.
The switch keeps running whether or not you stay on the screen. It advances every couple of minutes, so you can leave and come back.
What Happens to Overlapping Transactions
Where the old and new connections both have the same transaction, the two copies are merged into one, and your notes, tags, splits and receipts are kept. Anything the app isn't certain about is left for you to decide instead of being merged silently.
Cancelling
Until the switch starts moving history, you can tap Cancel the switch. Nothing is moved, and both connections stay exactly as they were. The new connection you just made stays too. Remove it yourself if you don't want it.
Tips
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I lose my categorized history?
No. Every transaction, category, note, split, receipt, budget and goal stays attached to the account it was on. Only the sync source changes.
Do I have to switch, or can I just reconnect?
Reconnect first. Switching is for connections that can't be repaired because the current provider no longer reaches your bank.
What if the switch fails to start?
You'll see "The switch couldn't be started. Please try again." Wait a minute and retry. If it keeps failing, contact [email protected] with the bank's name.
Why don't I see Switch provider?
It only shows on connections that have stopped syncing, and only where a switch is available for your account. Reconnect is always available.
