Invite a Partner

How to invite a partner or family member to your Forbidden Finance household for shared financial tracking.

Overview

Inviting a partner to your household takes just a few steps. You generate an invitation link or code, your partner accepts it from their own account, and then you both choose which accounts to share. The entire process is designed to be quick while keeping both members in control of their own privacy.

Household sharing requires a Pro or Premium plan. Pro supports one partner, while Premium supports up to five household members.

How to Send an Invitation

Open Household settings

Navigate to Settings and then Household. If you have not created a household yet, you see a prompt to get started.

Tap Invite Member

Tap Invite Member or Invite Partner. Forbidden Finance generates a unique invitation link and a short invitation code.

Share the invitation

Send the link or code to your partner through any method you prefer: text message, email, messaging app, or in person. The link opens directly in the app (or prompts a download if the app is not installed). The code can be entered manually.

Wait for acceptance

Your partner opens the link or enters the code in their Forbidden Finance app. You receive a notification when they accept.

How Your Partner Accepts

Your partner needs their own Forbidden Finance account (a free account works). Here is their experience:

Open the invitation

Your partner taps the invitation link or opens the app and navigates to Settings > Household > Join Household, then enters the invitation code.

Review the invitation

They see who invited them and a summary of what household sharing means. No data is shared until both members explicitly choose which accounts to share.

Accept the invitation

They tap Accept to join your household. Both members are now connected, but nothing is shared yet.

Choose accounts to share

After accepting, your partner is prompted to select which of their own accounts (if any) they want to share with you. They can also skip this step and configure sharing later.

After Accepting

Once the invitation is accepted:

  • Both members appear in each other's Household settings.
  • Each member independently chooses which accounts to share.
  • Shared accounts begin appearing in both members' views once selected.
  • The activity log starts tracking actions on shared data.

Neither member can see the other's accounts until those accounts are explicitly shared. The invitation itself does not grant access to any financial data.

Invitation Expiration and Limits

  • Expiration — Invitation links and codes expire after 7 days. If the link expires, generate a new one.
  • One at a time — You can only have one pending invitation at a time. Cancel a pending invitation to create a new one.
  • Member limits — Pro plans support one partner. If you already have a partner and want to invite additional members, upgrade to Premium (up to 5 members).

Tips

Make sure your partner creates their Forbidden Finance account before you send the invitation. The acceptance process is smoother when they already have the app installed and are logged in.
After your partner accepts, sit down together and decide which accounts each of you wants to share. This makes the initial setup faster and ensures you are both comfortable with what is visible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I cancel a pending invitation?

Yes. Go to Settings > Household and tap the pending invitation. Choose Cancel Invitation to invalidate the link and code. You can then generate a new invitation.

What if my partner does not have a Forbidden Finance account?

They need to create one first. A free account is sufficient to accept an invitation and access shared data. They can sign up from the invitation link if they do not have the app yet.

Can I invite someone who is not a romantic partner?

Absolutely. Household sharing works for any relationship: spouses, partners, family members, roommates, or anyone you want to share financial visibility with. On Premium, you can have up to five members.

What happens if I accidentally invite the wrong person?

Cancel the pending invitation immediately from your Household settings. If they already accepted, you can remove them from the household, which revokes all shared access instantly.
