Sign In with Google, Apple, or Microsoft

How to create or access your Forbidden Finance account with Google, Apple, or Microsoft: the access code you will need, what the Complete your account step asks for, and why an account is held until your email is verified.

Overview

You can sign in to Forbidden Finance with Google, Apple, or Microsoft instead of a Forbidden Finance password. On the sign-in screen the buttons sit under a divider reading "or continue with", labelled "Google", "Apple", and "Microsoft". Those same buttons are how you create an account this way.

You sign in on your provider's own screen, so you never type that password into Forbidden Finance.

You still need an access code. Forbidden Finance is invite-only right now, and signing in with a provider does not skip that — the first time you use one, the form asks for an "Access code" before your account can be created. If you do not have one yet, get it before you start, or you will be stopped on the last screen.

Sign In with a Provider

Open the sign-in screen

Launch Forbidden Finance or open the web app, and scroll to the "or continue with" divider.

Tap Google, Apple, or Microsoft

Your provider's own sign-in page opens. Sign in there as you normally would and approve the request.

Come back to Forbidden Finance

If you have used that provider here before, you land straight in the app. If it is your first time, you land on "Complete your account".

Your First Time: "Complete your account"

The first time you use a provider there is no Forbidden Finance account yet, so you finish setting one up on a screen titled "Complete your account", subtitled "A few more details and your Forbidden Finance account is ready."

At the top it confirms whose identity you are continuing with, in the form Continuing with {provider} as {email} — worth a glance if you have more than one account with that provider, because that is the identity your Forbidden Finance account will be tied to.

The form asks for, in order:

FieldWhat to enter
"Access code"Your invite code. The helper text says "Forbidden Finance is invite-only right now." — this is the field most likely to stop you, so have it ready.
"First name" and "Last name"How you appear in the app.
"Username"Helper: "Your unique login name". 3 to 30 characters, letters, numbers and underscores only.
"I agree to the Terms of Service" and "I agree to the Privacy Policy"Both are required. Your consent is collected here, before the account exists — not assumed afterwards.
"Date of birth (month & year)"Month and year only. You must be at least 16.
"Country of residence"Where you actually live.
"Email me occasional product news (optional)"Optional. Leave it off and nothing changes about your account.

Then tap "Create account".

We deliberately do not create an account silently from a provider's say-so. The details above — consent included — are collected up front so that the account that exists is one you actually agreed to.

The email field only appears sometimes

Most providers hand us an email address they have already verified, and when that happens there is no email field on the form at all.

When your provider does not share a verified address — in practice this is Microsoft — an "Email address" field appears, with the helper "Your provider didn't share a verified address, so we'll send a verification link here."

If You Had to Type Your Email, the Account Is Held

This is the part people get stuck on, so it is worth reading twice. If you typed your own email address, your account is created but you cannot sign in until you prove that address is yours.

You land on Check your inbox

Instead of the app, you see a screen titled "Check your inbox" reading We sent a verification link to {email}. and then Verify your email address, then sign in with {provider} again to finish. The only button is "Back to sign in".

Open the email and tap the verification link

Anyone can type any address into a form, which is exactly why we do not take one on trust. Tapping the link is what proves the inbox is yours.

Sign in with the same provider again

Go back to the sign-in screen and tap the same provider button. Now that the address is verified, you land in the app.

Signing in with your provider again does not skip the verification check — until you tap the link in that email, you will keep landing back on "Check your inbox". And there is no resend button on that screen, by design: running the same sign-in again is how you get a fresh link.

If That Email Already Has a Forbidden Finance Account

If the address from your provider already belongs to a Forbidden Finance account, setup stops rather than joining the two together. You see a card titled "We couldn't finish setting up" with the message:

an account with this email already exists — sign in with your existing method

and a "Back to sign in" button. Sign in the way you already do, and you are in.

This is a deliberate refusal, not a bug. A matching email address is not proof of a matching person — automatically attaching an existing account to a social identity because the addresses line up is a well-known route to account takeover. Connecting a provider to an account you already have is something you do yourself, from Settings, while signed in to that account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I still need a Forbidden Finance password?

No. When you sign in with Google, Apple, or Microsoft, your provider handles that step and you tap the same button every time. You should still protect the account itself — see Passkeys and Secure Your Account.

What happens if my email address at my provider changes?

Keep signing in with the same provider button. Do not sign up again with the new address hoping the two will join up: accounts are never merged on an email match, so a second sign-up gets you a second account or the "already exists" refusal above. If sign-in stops working after your address changes, email [email protected] rather than creating anything new.

Why was I asked for an access code?

Forbidden Finance is invite-only right now, so every new account needs one — provider sign-in included. The helper text under the field says so: "Forbidden Finance is invite-only right now."

I already have an account with that email. What do I do?

Sign in with your existing method. Setup deliberately stops with "an account with this email already exists — sign in with your existing method" instead of linking the two, because a shared address is not proof of a shared owner. Once you are signed in, you can connect the provider yourself from Settings.

Can I use a different email than the one at my provider?

Only when your provider does not share a verified address — that is when the "Email address" field appears, and you can type whichever address you want to verify. When your provider does share a verified address, there is no email field on the form, so the account uses the address that came from them.

Which providers can I use?

Google, Apple, and Microsoft.
