Common IssuesNotifications Not Arriving

Notifications Not Arriving

Why a push alert or email digest might not reach you, and how to check each link in the chain from the app's own Push diagnostics.

Overview

A push notification has to get past your device's permission, the app's own switches, your quiet hours, and the network before it reaches you. Email digests have their own schedule. This page walks through each in order. Start at the top.

Check Device Permission First

If notifications are turned off for Forbidden Finance in your device settings, nothing the app does can deliver a push. The Settings > Notifications screen shows a banner at the top in that case: "Notifications are turned off in your device settings, so push alerts can't be delivered." Tap Open settings to go straight to the app's notification permission and turn it back on.

In a web browser the banner reads "Notifications are blocked for this site". Browsers don't let a page change that for you, so allow notifications for app.403fin.io in your browser's site settings.

Check the App's Switches

Open Notifications

Go to Settings > Notifications.

Look at Push Notifications

Each kind of alert has its own switch: budget alerts, bill reminders, large transaction alerts and goal alerts. Make sure the one you expected is on.

Check the threshold

Large transaction alerts only fire for money going out, in your home currency, at or above your Alert threshold. Deposits and foreign-currency charges never trigger one.

Quiet Hours Hold, They Don't Drop

Quiet hours holds notifications overnight and delivers them when the window ends. Nothing is lost. If an alert seems late rather than missing, check the Start and End times under the Quiet hours switch.

Read Push Diagnostics

At the very bottom of Settings > Notifications is a collapsed section called Push diagnostics, with the subtitle "Recent push events on this device". Expand it to see what your phone has recorded since the app was opened: registration, tokens received and notifications delivered. It starts empty each time the app launches, which is normal.

If it stays empty after a notification should have arrived, or shows errors, tap Copy and paste the text into an email to [email protected]. Sensitive identifiers are shortened before they're shown.

Email Digests

Digests are sent on the schedule you chose under Digests & Reports:

  • Delivery time shows "Around" the hour you picked. A digest can arrive a little after it.
  • Week starts on decides when the weekly digest is sent.
  • A digest only goes out when it's turned on and your plan includes it.

If a digest is missing, check your spam folder and add the sending address to your contacts. Each digest email has an unsubscribe link for that digest only. Using it turns that switch off in the app.

Tips

Signing out ends push on that device. Sign in again to start receiving alerts there.

Frequently Asked Questions

I turned a switch on but nothing happens. Why?

Check the permission banner first. With permission denied, the switches save but can't take effect until you turn notifications back on in your device settings.

Why did I get a bill reminder at 8am instead of overnight?

Quiet hours held it. Reminders raised inside your quiet window are delivered when the window ends.

Do notifications work on the web app?

Yes, when your browser allows them for the site. If they're blocked, the Notifications screen tells you.

Can I test a notification?

The quickest check is to read Push diagnostics after an alert should have arrived. It shows whether the device registered and whether anything was delivered.
